A good book for advanced beginners

Read this book after you have learned the basic rules of holdem and have a general understanding of the game, including pot odds and table position. The stragegies you will learn from this book are the next step in making you a competitor in single-table tournaments that are common among casual players. The concepts provided in this book lie somewhere between those contained in other overly complex books for competitive players, and those books containing just basic guidelines for brand new players: a perfect balance for the player who is not interested in becoming a pro, but who wants to be a competent player.

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of good info... One thing that bothered me a bit though...early on, he was talking about pot odds calculations, and I think he made a recurrent mistake in the calculation. When calculating pot odds, the odds should be: amount in the pot now vs. amount you need to call. However, in his examples, he was combining the pot and call amounts together for the first number, i.e. instead of 6.5 to 1, he would say 9.5 to 1 (when calling a 3$ bet). I think that is a mistake, although I am not an expert, and I could be wrong...

Good summary of basic strategy for beginning SNG players. After this, I would suggest Moshman & Shaw for a more comprehensive look at SNG strategy.
